Differentiate
本来：Originally.
1 Generally, we use “后来” to explain the previous situation, but then the situation has changed. And there are obvious changes in sentences, like the “了” indicating change in the end.
Example: 我本来打算明天去，可是明天有事，不能去了。
2 “本来”Often used with “后来hòulái”, like “本来……后来……”.
Example: 我本来住在北京，后来搬到上海了。
3 Sometimes can be replaced with “以前”.
以前：before
If we say “以前” alone, we don’t refer to the most recent, it is long ago.
✘我以前打算明天去，可是明天有事不能去了.
√我本来打算明天去，可是明天有事不能去了。
